OCEAN-089 LUNASPIS

PaleoVentures presents the Lunaspis as figure number 089 of its Ocean Series!


Lunaspis is a member of the petalichthyid family of placoderms, which are characterised by splayed pectoral fins, exaggerated lateral spines, flattened bodies, dorsally-oriented eyes and numerous tubercles that decorated all of the plates and scales of their armour! Like all prehistoric creatures made for the PaleoVentures lines, this creature is brought to life in a cute and simplified appearance.

Like its close relatives Henodus and Psephoderma, Placochelys was one of the more turtle-like members of the Placodontia,‭ ‬although its feet were not dedicated flippers and still retained toes suggesting that Placochelys may have occasionally ventured onto land! CENO-090 DESMOSTYLUS

Desmostylus resembled a modern hippopotamus in appearance, but scientists are still unsure of its exact position in the mammal family tree, with some suggesting that it was closer to elephants while others proposing it was part of a separate side branch of mammals that left no modern descendants!
